All the best events seem to happen in the same night, and this week the Zambuni team were treated to two fantastic events with a fieldsports twist in one evening. Our Wednesday night started off with a trip to the Purdey awards for game and conservation where the brightest and best of the fieldsports world turned out to see Yorkshire’s Ilkley Moor, one of the most famous pieces of countryside in England, win the prestigious conservation prize after its keepers rebuilt its population of red grouse from just a handful of breeding pairs. The Houghton Estate, near Kings Lynn, Norfolk scooped the Silver Award, and farm shoots in Nottinghamshire and Gloucestershire, were both bestowed Purdey Bronze Awards. It was fantastic to catch up with so many friends and press including Shooting Gazette, Mayfair Magazine, The Field, Fieldsports, Tatler and Shooting Times, as well as celebrate the great, and vital work that is being done within the industry to ensure that conservation remains a priority.
We then made a swift transition to the Mayfair home of another fieldsports legend, Holland and Holland, where we joined in the rather festive celebrations of the launch of the winter issue of The Gentleman’s Journal. Resplendent in Christmassy décor, Holland and Holland was glowing, and the team had drafted in a number of heritage brands showcased in the store, including bespoke perfumers Design in Scent and The Hive Honey Shop which made the evening an indulgent, wonderful overload for the senses!
The drinks were flowing and we also spent some great time in the gun room, which is a sight to behold at the best of times, with one of Holland & Holland’s amazing engravers. We learnt about incredibly time-intensive engraving process, and talked about the most bizarre commissions! They are true leaders of craftsmanship.
We then slipped to the front of the party to browse through more of the beautiful ranges in the store and catch up with lots of our fab friends, including the Guns on Pegs boys. Not bad for a midweek outing, but then, the party season is truly upon us… bring on December!
