I love a good party all for a good cause and The Carnell Cup was certainly that. Held at the breathtakingly beautiful Carnell Estate in Ayrshire, The Carnell Cup is a competitive simulated shoot that takes place on the estate with lunch in a marquee. The proceeds of the shoot and the auction were to be split between Capability Scotland and the GWCT.
I was very kindly invited for dinner and to stay the night before by Adrienne and Micky and frankly if it’s good enough for Brad and Angelina, it’s good enough for me. Brad, Angelina and their brood called the house and sprawling gardens home for an extended period when Brad was filming in Glasgow.
It was a party the night before, followed by some serious shooting the next day, followed by a party. I was on the home team, The Carnell Crack Shots with Rosina and Harry Findlay who call Carnell home, Richard Bath, my good friend and editor of The Scottish Field and Arthur who was meant to be the auctioneer, but that’s another story…. I had to call 999 from a field when Arthur took a funny turn. However, my good friend comedian Fred Macaulay happened to be in one of the shooting teams so as the ambulance headed to the hospital with Arthur, he kindly agreed to take over. Fred did an amazing job, making us all roar with laughter and raising lots of cash. I was picked on slightly, but as a true townie from London in a room of gruff Scotsmen, it wasn’t really a surprise. Arthur even made it back for pudding and prizes and as the only girls shooting Rosina and I did our part for women’s lib.
