Orvis UK and Hunter Gather Cook have partnered to launch the ultimate outdoor experience package – a day of fly fishing, foraging and cooking, ending in a delicious meal celebrating the best of wild British food. The package was launched on 9th April with a special day on the Kimbridge beat on the world renowned River Test, to coincide with the launch of Nick’s new cookbook, ‘Adventures in Wild Food.’ Hosted by Orvis UK, the Hunter Gather Cook team prepared a feast of wild food, including trout caught by guests on the day.
Established in 2011, Hunter Gather Cook (HGC) is a foraging and cookery school that specialises in game butchery, wild cocktails and outdoor cookery, exclusively over live fire. The HGC Tree House HQ sits in the middle of mixed woodland on a stunning 40 acre farm near Lewes, East Sussex. Orvis UK is the trusted source of fly fishing, discovery and adventure in the natural world. The partnership with Orvis UK has formed naturally over the past X years due to their shared passion for creating authentic outdoor experiences.
Nick Weston, Founder of Hunter Gather Cook said, “Fly fishing and foraging are personal passions of mine, so this was a natural partnership to create. Having access to the Orvis beat on the world renowned River Test made this Catch & Cook package even more special. I fish with an Orvis Helios 3 fly rod and love the companies’ ethos of conservation and encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors.”
The Catch & Cook Experience
Join Orvis UK, Nick Weston and his team from Hunter Gather Cook on a very special date this Summer for a morning of fly casting tuition – equipped with a fly rod – learn fly choice, essential knots, how to read the water, casting and retrieve.
The day will include a foraging walk around the fishery in search of wild plants to accompany the trout in the outdoor kitchen, a variety of taster dishes including Brown and Rainbow Trout gravadlax, ceviche, barbecued and hot smoked. Plus, filleting and preparing your catch, as well as foraging for plants to accompany a range of gin cocktails, in partnership with The Botanist Gin.
The Orvis Kimbridge river beat, near the Hampshire-town of Romsey, boasts gin-clear, chalkstream waters with fantastic facilities including easy access to a thatched fishing lodge, making it ideal for entertaining. This productive beat is a third of a mile in length with a medium river-flow rate, with interesting shallows and a bubbling top pool. The beat can be booked exclusively for the day with a guide for up to 5 rods but can accommodate up to 10 for a fun day on the river, such as the Catch & Cook experience day.
Dates for the Catch & Cook summer session include Sunday 21st September on the Orvis Kimbridge Beat on the River Test in Hampshire, for £350 (inc VAT) per rod. To book, please contact email@example.com.
