Friday 20th September marked the beginning of the ‘Orvis Residency’ at the showroom and factory of the iconic Birmingham based gunmakers – Westley Richards. The three-month collaboration will run through the fast-approaching Christmas period.
Founded in 1812 Westley Richards continues to lead the field in high art gun-making having built an unrivalled reputation as the finest engraver and embellisher of guns and rifles in the business. In the same vein, Orvis are the oldest fly fishing company in the world, boasting a 150-year history of being at the forefront of cutting-edge flyrod technology. Both share an illustrious heritage in the country sports world, so a partnership between the two seems very fitting indeed.
Anthony Alborough-Tregear, Managing Director of Westley Richards said: “It is a great pleasure to welcome Orvis UK for their three-month residency within the wonderful surroundings of our Westley Richards showroom. Launched in fine style with our friends at Bentley Motors, many of our customers enjoyed the chance to refine their fly fishing techniques with Orvis’ top fishing specialists.
Many of our customers being fieldsports enthusiasts are just as eager to cast a fly as fire a shot, and those occasions are rarely spent without the dutiful support of their canine friends. Therefore, we are excited to house Orvis’ elite fishing equipment and sumptuous dog accessories alongside our best guns and fine leather goods, in the run up to the Christmas period. We, like Orvis, hold a true adoration for the great outdoors and all its splendour, and look forward to sharing more of that mutual passion over the coming months.”
Amongst the selection of fine guns and accessories of Westley Richards store, Orvis are showcasing a fantastic range of fishing and dog equipment. This means that in addition to the quality leather goods from Westley Richards, guests can also purchase a luxurious memory foam dog bed or perhaps a Helios3 fly rod. So, when the doors opened at 12 pm, guests were granted exclusive access to goods from one, if not both, of their favourite hobbies.
Brian Campbell-Kearsey, head of marketing at Orvis UK said: “It was fantastic to meet so many people who share a mutual passion for fly fishing at the launch of our Residency at Westley Richards on Friday 20th September. We valued the opportunity to communicate to our consumers in the Birmingham area and be able to invite them into such a beautifully curated space to experience the Orvis gundog and fly fishing collections. The synergy between our handmade rods and the high art guns at Westley Richards proved an irresistible draw. We are delighted to have both of these collections in store from now through to Christmas for anyone to visit.”
In addition to perusing these sporting treasures, guests also had the opportunity to have a complimentary casting lesson from Orvis’s very own expert – Keith Passant. Amongst those seeking to perfect their cast, complete beginners had a chance to cast a fly for the first time; this proved to be a massive hit, with many expressing the intention to take to the riverbank for the first time.
The event was also graced by ‘Bentley of Birmingham’, a third brand which possesses all the same prestigious hallmarks of Orvis and Westley Richards. Two Bentley Bentayga took their spot at the front of the factory and certainly added some elegance and class to the whole occasion.
The resounding success of the day set the tone for what will be an exciting three months for the two brands. If you’re in the Midlands and you’re in the market for a new rod or a truly unique Christmas gift, why not see what Orvis and Westley Richards have on offer?
